How far can you travel in 3,000 yen?
- I traveled the record high of 246.7 km including 31.7 km painful walking

In Japan, where the transportation costs are among the highest in the world, I proved it is possible to travel as far as 246.7 kilometres within 3,000 yen by taking trains, highway buses and our own feet.

In September 11th, I traveled from Ueno Station in Tokyo to Iwata city , Shizuoka prefecture, which is well known by the professional soccer team "Jubilo Iwata". This record is remarkable, because some TV stars has challenged the same race and the highest record was only 216.5 kilometres.

Rules of the game

Start at 9:00 from Ueno Station, Tokyo

You have 10 hours to travel, then finish time is 19:00.

You can spend 3,000 yen to buy train, bus or rental cycle tickets including discount tickets, except for JR's "Seishun 18" ticket.

. Hitch hiking is not allowed during the travel time.

The challenge was very, very tough, because it included more than 30 kilometers of trek under the scorching sun.The temperature of the day was as high as 33 degrees celcius! I had to be very careful of cramps and dehydration. But I did enjoy the change of landscapes from hustle-bustle Tokyo to the tranquil countryside. I also enjoyed the countless cheering en route "Come on, 3000 yen boy!" (I wore a signboard of "Challenge. How can I travel in 3000 yen?". Please find the picture below.)
